Interactive exhibition of the Jagiellonian University Museum "The World of the Senses" once again on the move in Poland

From June 7, we can enjoy the interactive exhibition "The World of the Senses" at Olsztyn's Astronomical Observatory, prepared by the Jagiellonian University Museum. The exhibition, devoted to the functioning of the human senses, has enjoyed great popularity for the past 8 years, both in Poland and abroad. It was last shown in Uppsala, Sweden. 132,000 people have visited it thus far.

The interactive exhibition "The World of the Senses" was made possible thanks to the support of The Citi Handlowy Leopold Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy.

The aim of the exhibition is to familiarize viewers with the anatomical, physiological and physical basis of the functioning of our sensory organs. The exhibition includes some 60 experiments showing selected phenomena related to the construction and operation of the human sensory organs. The exhibition is open to visitors from June 7 to September 27 in the halls of the Astronomical Observatory, every day except Sunday, at 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00, 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.

As Dr. Maciej Kluza of the Jagiellonian University Museum, the organizer of the exhibition, explains, it is interactive, which means that the subject is presented through experiments conducted independently by the viewer (in a hands-on manner). Each experiment is accompanied by brief instructions and an explanation of the phenomenon being presented. In this way, by performing experiments at the exhibition, you can find out how sight, hearing, smell and touch work, as well as how to fool the senses.

- This is yet another project of the Jagiellonian University Museum that we have supported through our grant program. We appreciate interesting and innovative initiatives. The "World of the Senses" exhibition shows that through play and independent experimentation one can gain practical knowledge in a very friendly way - says Krzysztof Kaczmar, President of The Citi Handlowy Leopold Kronenberg Foundation at Citi Handlowy.

The interactive exhibition "The World of the Senses" was opened at the Jagiellonian University Museum on September 30, 2005 and was the second interactive exhibition at the JU Museum. Thus far the exhibition has been held in Gdańsk, Uppsala, Dębica and Sandomierz, and the calendar for the next three years has already been planned.

The exhibition will travel across Poland: from June to September it can be seen at the Olsztyn Observatory, in October and November at the Raciborz Museum, and in December and January 2014 at the Museum of Old Commerce in Świdnica. In February and April 2014, the District Museum in the Tarnów Mountains will present the exhibition, and from May to July it will be hosted by the Chrzanów Museum. Visitors to the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom will be able to see "The World of the Senses" from August to November 2014. From November 2014 to February 2015 the exhibition can be seen at the "The Mill of Knowledge" Center for Modernity in Toruń.
