Emerging Market Champions Award of The Citi Handlowy Leopold Kronenberg Foundation and Citi Handlowy for the third time at the European Forum for New Ideas

Already for the third time, the Emerging Market Champions Award was presented at this year's European Forum for New Ideas in Sopot. It is given every year to Polish firms that successfully carry out expansion in foreign markets, and to companies from emerging markets investing in Poland. The award ceremony will be preceded by a panel discussion featuring Andrzej Olechowski, Marek Belka, Jerzy Hausner, Grzegorz Kołodko, and Ebrahim Rahbari, an economist from Citi in New York, will take part.

"For years Citi Handlowy has supported Polish firms with international ambitions, making use of Citi's global potential - its presence in over 100 countries and the latest banking solutions for firms. At the same time, we the number one partner for global corporations operating in Poland. The idea behind the award presented during EFNI is to honor Polish firms that are courageously conquering foreign markets, as well as foreign companies investing on a large scale in Poland. I am convinced that the Emerging Market Champions Award is excellent for building up the image of entrepreneurship in the public consciousness and promotes the best business models," says Sławomir S. Sikora, President of Citi Handlowy.

The Emerging Market Champions Award is presented by The Citi Handlowy Leopold Kronenberg Foundation in two categories: "Polish investments abroad" and "Foreign investments in Poland". The first category promotes Polish companies that expand operations beyond the borders of the country, while the second is addressed to foreign companies from emerging markets that make significant investments in Poland, in the process creating new jobs and contributing to the development of our country.

The presentation of the Award will be preceded by a panel discussion on "Emerging markets - a slalom between threats: Brexit, the middle income trap, demographic challenges". Participating in the discussion will be Marek Belka, former Prime Minister and president of the National Bank of Poland; Jerzy Hausner, former Deputy Prime Minister and member of the Monetary Policy Council; Grzegorz Kolodko, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; and Ebrahim Rahbari,a global markets economist at Citi's headquarters in New York. The moderator of the discussion will be the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Citi Handlowy, Andrzej Olechowski.

The panelists will discuss new models for the development of emerging markets, which were supposed toovertake developed economiesby the start of the 21st century. The key issue seems to be the future direction of their transformation - how can they be transformed into highly developed economies based on knowledge, rather than being based, as they have until now, on high prices of raw materials and cheap labor. The impact on financial markets of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union will also be discussed, as well as other phenomenaaccompanying it, such as the political and institutional crisis of the EU, and migration from the south.

The discussion and the presentation of the Emerging Market Champions Award will take place on the second day of EFNI on Thursday, September 29 at 3:30 pm in the New Ideas Pavilion.
