Dr. Ryszard Kokoszczynski, author of the thesis "Contemporary Monetary Policy in Poland," has won the Bank Handlowy Award in the Theory of Economics. His dissertation presenting an analysis of the Polish monetary policy after 1989, shown against the background of the contemporary economic knowledge, stood out for his ability to present facts, ideas and concepts in a selective and deeply thought-out manner, while being creative.
For ten consecutive years, the contest has revolved around the guiding principle to promote the most valuable and distinguished publications in economics and finance.
"The Bank Handlowy Award is our contribution to the development of economic thought, and a way to express appreciation for scientific circles in view of their theoretical support for resolving issues vital to the economy. The awarded dissertation is undoubtedly a crowning achievement of the scientific work and activity of the author, who is an experienced banker and outstanding scientist," said Slawomir S. Sikora, CEO Bank Handlowy.
"Upon Poland's accession to the EU, Poland agreed to accept the common currency in the future. The most important task of the Polish authorities for the next years should be to prepare Poland for the accession to the euro zone in a way that enables it to fully use the opportunities while minimizing threats," said Katarzyna Zajdel-Kurowska, Chief Economist of Bank Handlowy.
The Award Gala took place on November 25, in the Belvedere Presidential Palace, co-hosted by Professor Leszek Balcerowicz, President of the National Bank of Poland, and Slawomir S. Sikora, CEO Bank Handlowy.
