How to open a Foreign Currency Account at Citi Handlowy?

You can open a foreign currency account yourself on Citibank® Online or in the Citi Mobile® application.

  1. Log in and select ‘My Finance’ in the top menu, followed by ‘Personal Accounts’, and go to the end of the accounts list.
  2. Select ‘Open an FX or Savings Account’.
  3. Select the relation in which you want to open an account and check the FX sub-account.
  4. Select the currency of the new account from the drop-down list.
  5. Download the fee-related document and, finally, click ‘Confirm’.
  1. After logging in, activate the free Citibank Global Wallet service at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Then select the option to add a currency account in one of the available currencies to this service.

Supplementary services

  • The funds are available to the recipient immediately after the transfer is ordered by the sender.
  • The recipient is not charged any fees.
  • A CGT transfer order up to the equivalent of PLN 50,000 can be submitted free of charge on Citibank Online.
  • This service is offered in more than 15 countries.
  • You will receive cash in the currency of the country of your stay, based on a valid passport. The withdrawn funds – up to the equivalent of USD 1,000 (or USD 10,000 for holders of a Citigold or Citigold Private Client personal account) – will be debited from an account held with Citi Handlowy indicated by you, as long as there are sufficient funds on the account.

Note! The authorized transaction amount may differ from the transaction amount and the amount posted on the account.

When withdrawing cash or making card payments abroad (also online), you can use the Dynamic Currency Conversion service (DCC) offered by selected points of sale and ATMs. With DCC, a Cardholder may select his/her domestic currency instead of the local currency to make payments (the domestic currency for cards issued by Citi Handlowy is PLN).

In practical terms this means that when making a payment, you receive information on the transaction’s value in PLN and the exchange rate of the local currency into PLN.

Please be advised that DCC may not be favorable to a Client of Citi Handlowy (Holder of a debit card to the Personal Account) if a transaction in PLN is executed under DCC and then settled on the account in PLN when it could be settled on the account of the transaction currency (EUR, USD, CHF, GBP, AUD, CAD, CZK, DKK, HRK, HUF, NOK, RUB, SEK, ZAR). The amount of such a transaction will be converted into PLN at the exchange rate of the settlement agent (DCC).

DCC is not a service offered by Citi Handlowy and is optional.
